A Look at Relationships Through Wine, Cheese, and Musical Theatre

Mild to Wild

“is 1/3 stand-up/improv Comedy, 1/3 musical theatre cabaret, and 1/3 cheese pairing class.

Memory is so tied to our sense of taste and smell. Knowing this, Anne-Marie takes you on a journey through various past relationships in her life- each represented by a pairing using all local cheeses, beverages, and extra goodies.

The audience gets to drink and eat along with Anne-Marie in the show as she dives into her musical memories— and maybe the audience might share some of their own (…which will probably only happen after the second glass of wine). Mild to Wild is engaging, fun, surprisingly educational, and very heart-felt.”

Development History

Mild to Wild was born out of Arts on Grand’s Artist Residency. During this residency in Spencer, Iowa I worked on this show while assistant directing a mainstage production of Oklahoma, running workshops, and directing a New Composers Cabaret for the students at Spencer High School. More on teaching/directing and workshop offerings HERE.

During my time there, I worked with the city of Spencer to try to get more of their community members involved in the arts. The most well attended city-wide events were the downtown car show and the chili cook-off, so we thought if there was music AND food, people might show up.

Thus began the complete restructuring of the show which eventually became Mild to Wild. An experiment that included all local cheese, wine, beer, and like any good touring stand-up— local jokes. It ended up being over-sold out and was an incredibly special evening. Part of what made it so intimate was how hyper-local everything was, so since then—in addition to Iowa— there have been versions written for California, New York, Wisconsin, Vermont, and England (for the intended but ultimately postponed 2020 international debut and tour).
